spacecraft thermal testing

Industry Related News: United States – (November, 2019):

The European Space Agency’s ExoMars rover has been in early development since 2014 with a launch schedule leading to a 2020 departure. The rover now finds itself in France and will enter a thermal testing chamber to verify that its components can withstand the rigors of spaceflight and the environment of open space and Mars. The thermal vacuum testing will take 18 days and the testing chamber is set to alternate between extreme heat (500°F) and cold (-180°F).

Once thermal vacuum testing has been completed, the ExoMars rover will be integrated with the Descent Module of the spacecraft. The ExoMars program is an example of an exemplary international initiative, as it is undertaken in partnership with the Russian Space Agency, NASA, as well as JPL. The rover has seen smooth-sailing so far in testing phases and the scientific community is hopeful. It will be the first rover specifically designed for the purpose of researching signs of life on the Red Planet.
