Newselectronics.co.uk is reporting that “a new semiconductor material, defect-free boron arsenide, has been developed by UCLA engineers. According to the team, it is more effective at drawing and dissipating waste heat than any other known semiconductor or metal materials.” Thermal testing has revealed that this may be the “world’s most efficient semiconductor for thermal management.”

UCLA is reporting that thermal testing has revealed that this semiconductor material “has record-high thermal conductivity, more than three-times faster at conducting heat than currently used materials, such as silicon carbide and copper.” The team believes that this material may help revolutionize the electronics and energy sectors alike.

The team at UCLA also stated that they have gained new insight into how heat flows through semiconductor materials, leading to the hope that a reduction in energy demands across the industry may be possible.
