BELLINGHAM, Ma – (April 8, 2016): Khoury Industries, a worldwide leader in thermal testing solutions, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued US Patent No. 9,267,718 relating to the ELI-1000, a temperature control system that provides for quickly activating and inactivating a cooling and heating circuit within a closed loop system. The patent also highlights an interchangeable, removable chamber.
The patented technology in the ELI-1000 allows for a steady state operation with a heating/cooling system that can be operated and controlled independently of each other. Rather than turning the compressor off when cooling is not needed and turning the compressor back on when cooling is needed, the compressor is left on during steady state operation, and an electronically controlled valve is used to control the flow of coolant.
The ELI-1000 is configured as a single package consisting of a small cascade refrigeration system, a blower, a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) temperature controller, and a low wattage heater. It uses a 120 VAC 20-amp power source.
In operation, a relatively significant air flow is heated or cooled and blown into the chamber to bring the temperature of the chamber and its contents (the device-under-test or DUT) to the desired temperature. Air then exits the chamber and is recirculated to be heated or cooled again. Because of the large air volume blowing through the chamber, no baffles or folds within the internal chamber are normally required to attain good temperature uniformity within the chamber. ELI-1000 allows for temperature control of either the chamber air or the DUT or both.
Other features of the ELI-1000 include: a removable, exchangeable chamber;, a compact design that measures only 19”Wx30”Dx28”H; USB, RS485, RS232, GPIB, and Ethernet communication ports; Type T, K, or RTD DUT Sensor Ports; both analog and digital inputs; simplified and accurate calibration for all airflows and DUT types; and an operating temperature of -70ºC to +200ºC.
Customization on the ELI-1000 is available for a client’s special projects. An example would include a recent order in which the ELI-1000 application tests a new module where the RF microwave testing can go as high as 110 gigahertz (GHz) using RF cables and wave guides.
The ELI-1000 was developed by Tony Khoury, President and engineer at Khoury Industries. The system was introduced under a provisional patent in 2010 and has been well received within the industry.
“We started selling the ELI-1000 a few years ago under a provisional patent, and sales have gone very well,” said Tony Khoury. “Our customers rave about the superior capabilities in a machine that is so convenient and portable. They can use the ELI-1000 in the lab or roll it out to the production line or take it home with them if they wanted to. Because the DUT chambers are interchangeable, this machine can be customized over and over again. We’re really proud of this new product.”
