Industry Related News: United States – (October, 2018):
Researchers in Materials Science at the University of Nottingham are reporting that they believe they have created a polymer material capable of regulating its own temperature with a thermal regulation mechanism similar to what is seen in biological systems. Dr. Mark Alston, the lead researcher on the project, noted that the team “[…] has tackled the challenge of incorporating a complex thermal process” by incorporating fluidic techniques typically seen in medical equipment into “[…] A5-sized units that can capture and redirect energy.” Dr. Alston mentioned that they see this material as a viable option for creating self-regulating thermal regulation semiconductors, and with further thermal regulation testing could be applied in the aerospace industry as well.
The team hopes to begin a partnership within the space industry to continue thermal testing and development.
